Guy wasn't late, perhaps because he found all this important, and perhaps because he was already in Good Spirits when the writing had taken place. He is a shadow that often lingers on the furthermost stool up at the bar, becoming so very much a part of the scenery that those about him hardly take notice anymore. Except for the bartender, that is.
Guy waits with three empty glasses, like tombstones, empty and lined along the countertop while his hand swirls the only tumbler that still, bearing the slosh of tinted liquid, seems to have any life at all. It isn't for the smell, but because he's bored and it gives his hand something to when it isn't occupied with holding a lit cigarette.
And promptly at five o'clock, Draco walked into Good Spirits, standing inside the doorway and letting his eyes sweep over the area for the man wanted. As he spotted Guy in the corner, he held his head high and strode toward that bar stool, lifting an eyebrow at the glass and cigarette.
"Seems you've found ways to occupy yourself without me. I'm impressed."
"I have to be, otherwise I'd be dead by now," he responded, easing his way down to sit on a stool next to him. "Besides, I think this is rather important, don't you agree?"
"I never knew there to be such finality in timeliness."
A lie, but it's said facetiously enough that it is clearly meant to be a light-hearted way of joking about things. He knows very well deadlines that, if not made on time, could get a man killed. Sometimes himself, sometimes another person entirely.
"Very important, this. Very important, indeed." He tips the glass back and lines it up, once empty, with its glinting counterparts. "I'll begin with a question, since you're my senior in terms of time spent in this little pocket of whatever-it-is Luceti boasts. What do you make of the little man with the announcement? Genuine?"
"Think of it this way, Guy. If a man's in one place for some time, and fails to leave at precisely the right moment to arrive at another place he's needed, he might be in the wrong place at the wrong time and then fails to narrowly escape. If he doesn't leave on time, he could be a split second too late and have his head blasted off. But that's just putting it lightly." He smirks a bit, knowing that Guy was trying to ease up but determined to keep this as focused as possible.
If it were something to be proud of, he would have preened a bit at being named a senior of anything. However, his lip curls up a bit in disgust. "With him, it's genuinely hard to say. That one has always been someone to be wary of, but on the other hand for the most part he's not one that you have to jump through hoops to understand. To be honest, he's usually up-front, if not a bit too smarmy. Things he's told us before have come true. This might not be any different at all, though I wouldn't trust it simply for the fact that it means leaving this place."

"There's something not right about him." Guy shifts in his chair, leaning a bit more toward Draco.
"Listen very carefully.
He says he used to be not only a part of their organisation, but the head of it. Suddenly, the information he gives us claims he's no longer that leader. He's either been either replaced or he stepped down, and yet there he is, making a grandiose announcement about a new experiment while also claiming no involvement in the most recent Valentine's shift. It all seems a bit suspect, don't you think? Here's a man no longer in a position of power, looking for volunteers for an experiment for the very organisation he walked away from. Not only that, but we're talking about putting people in other people's worlds. Time hopping. Universe travels. Where, exactly, is that man getting the resources for an experiment like that when he's not a higher up? Better yet, it begs the question... why make a point about not being the leader when clearly this experiment comes from the top?
There are risks in this, obviously, but what the hell is he doing with them? It isn't just a risk for the volunteers, but a potentially massive breach for the Malnosso themselves. They're either playing political games with us and attempting to gain our trust... or something is happening internally we don't know about.
This is strategic, and it's bloody strange. I wanted to know what you thought of him because I wanted to see if you trust him. I can't."
Leaving here is a high priority for Guy, but something is rotten in the state of Denmark. Or Luceti, for that matter. He needs another set of eyes.
"Of course I don't trust him. Why should I? He's never really done anything worth earning my trust." Draco paused for a moment, considering everything Guy had just said. He agrees with a good portion of it, absolutely, and he can't think of anything else to add to it.
"As a whole, it sounds far too good to be true. There was a time once when they offered us a route home...turned out to be a trap, obviously. Why wouldn't this be any different?"
"Few years ago, a few months after I first arrived. Obviously I didn't believe it because honestly, it would have been far too easy to be able to jump through a portal and get back to our own worlds." He actually managed to look disgusted.
"If people went through the portals? They just found themselves re-routed to another part of the village. They also found they were unable to actually communicate properly after the fact."
